To be awarded a Diploma of Graphic Design, competency must be achieved in all nineteen (19) units.

In our internet-centric and e-commerce world, digital video content is King. It is the present - and future - of all business and product marketing. When you consider that by 2020, digital video will constitute over fifty percent of all mobile traffic - and up to eighty percent of all web traffic, businesses and entrepreneurs must now embrace video as their primary and most effective marketing tool.
Ninety percent of all major product marketing now uses video as the central component to their campaigns and learning how to create, manage and distribute digital video content, is becoming the all-important strategy for business in the 21st Century. The goal is engagement with your customers. Digital video advertising has been shown to be six hundred percent more effective in marketing a product or idea than print and direct mail combined.
Our Screen and Media and Graphic Design courses offer hands-on training in originating and developing concepts for your brand or product, learning to develop engaging content and creating professional, effective and engaging video for product marketing, promotion and presentations. In addition, you can learn cutting edge practices for design and web marketing, producing visually engaging tools for commercial use and become proficient in using design, typography, video and photomedia for promotion and marketing.
With three hundred hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute, two billion video views on Snapchat daily and four billion daily streams on Facebook, now is the best time to learn to create digital content and use it as the major tool to drive sales for your product or business idea.
The Diploma of Graphic Design has been developed to advance your skills in the exciting world of graphic design, digital arts and visual communications. You will learn all aspects of design including digital graphics, pre-press, print, packaging design, drawing, typography and professional web development. You'll use industry standard software (Adobe Creative Suite) including but not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver. You will have access to commercial-grade photography and drawing studios and use high-end graphic computer workstations.
Throughout the course you will develop skills through practical exercises and projects in design, web design, photography, production, branding and marketing all the while adding to your professional portfolio.
During the course you will also develop professional skills required to work successfully in any business environment including interpreting briefs, marketing strategies and project management. Classes will be set in a simulated design studio environment to prepare you for life in the exciting world of graphic design, digital arts and visual communications.
This qualification reflects the role of graphic designers at the beginning of their professional careers. It combines technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges. Graduates will have a sound understanding of design theory and practice and are able to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.
This course is offered full-time, part-time and to year 11 & 12 students at school.
Job Outcome from this course
People with the Diploma of Graphic Design are able to work in a range of professional graphic design roles, often in entry-level graphic design positions in advertising, print production, publishing, and computer graphics or as generalist designers. Their work may include or have links to areas such advertising and promotion, art direction, branding, corporate identity, instructional design, packaging, signage and web design.
Graphic Designers may work independently as consultants or freelance designers, or as part of a larger team in an advertising agency or design studio.
Graphic design graduates may find employment in specialised design companies, advertising agencies and printing businesses. Job titles include Graphic Designer, Layout Designer, Packaging Designer, and more.
The Australian government’s Job Outlook website states, the number of job openings for Graphic and Web Designers, and Illustrators is expected to be above average (between 25,001 and 50,000).
Looking forward, employment for Graphic and Web Designers, and Illustrators to November 2020 is expected to grow strongly.
This is a very large occupation (46,500 in November 2015) suggesting that opportunities should be available in most regions.
Graphic and Web Designers, and Illustrators have an above average proportion of full-time jobs (78.1 per cent).
Pathways / Further Study
The conceptual and theoretical content in this qualification also supports learning at higher levels. Graduates may engage in further learning in vocational and higher education through Advanced Diploma and Degree qualifications in graphic design and broader areas of practice, such as digital media or other design disciplines.
